The Key West Raw Scene: Pure Jeevan Gets Up-Close and Personal with Chef Rita Romano (Part 1)
February 19th, 2009 By Wendi Dee and Jim Dee | Raw Food and Raw Foods Diet | 3 Comments (Thanks!) »

Wow, what a wonderful trip we had to the Florida Keys. Naturally, we enjoyed a daytrip to Key West to check out the southern-most raw foods scene in the whole USA! What, didn’t you know Key West had a raw scene? It absolutely does — and a vibrant one at that! It’s only natural, when you consider it. Any town where enormous crowds of rowdy tourists, laid-back locals, and street-savvy performance artists and musicians gather nightly (365 days/year) to joyously celebrate the sunset has just GOT to have residents who really know how to live. And what better way to savor each moment of life than by tapping into the raw lifestyle?
Rita Romano, author of the widely available book Dining in the Raw and executive chef for many years at the Hippocrates Health Institute, is a true pioneer of the raw movement. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to visit with her and her two lovely Boston Terriers, Angel and Oreo.
[Update: We used to have a video interview here, but we've since removed it. Next time we visit Florida, we'll have another chat with Rita.

Dear Pure Jeevan,
I enjoyed the video of Rita very much. She was my chef for a short period of time in Key West. Her talent and knowledge is staggering. She is terrific and everything she makes is heavenly. She really opened my eyes to a much better way of eating. Her book is great and I hope she writes many others. I highly recommend it.
